Immigration

SCN offers free Immigration Legal Services to low-income immigrants, particularly those with humanitarian immigration statuses, such as refugees, asylees, or humanitarian parolees. Refugees and asylees are eligible to adjust to Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) status, commonly known as a green card, after one year with their humanitarian status in the U.S. After 5 years of holding LPR status, they are eligible to apply for naturalization and become a U.S. citizen. Our Immigration team helps people along all stages of this pathway and to overcome many of the potential barriers.

SCN has on staff two Department of Justice accredited immigration representatives who are qualified to legally represent clients before USCIS, as well as a staff attorney who can also represent them before the immigration courts. Some of the applications we can assist in preparing without charge for eligible individuals include:

  • Naturalization (N-400)

  • Certificate of Citizenship (N-600)

  • Adjustment of Status (I-485)

  • Refugee Travel Document (I-131)

  • Employment Authorization Document (I-765)
