Youth Education

After School Program

Join our After School Program to work with refugee and immigrant students in learning academic and social-emotional skills while having fun! We need highly-motivated and committed volunteers for this in-person program beginning immediately.

Schedule - At least one day per week, M-Th, 3:30-6 PM, at our Edgewater office for the duration of the semester. There will be an in-person orientation at our Edgewater office one week prior to starting as well as mandatory trainings either online or in the office throughout the year. In-office training will correspond with your chosen volunteer schedule.

  • No Arabic proficiency required



Online Homework Room

The Online Homework Room provides a space for refugee and immigrant students to access one-on-one tutoring. In this program, students in 1st - 2nd grades work together in reading comprehension groups and students in 3rd-8th grade receive one-on-one tutoring to work on homework and academic skill building. 

Schedule - There will be two online trainings each semester. We are asking for 2 hours a week dispersed as 1 hour a day on two days of the program (Mon/Wed or Tue/Thur). We are also seeking substitutes who are trained, but not expected to join every week.

  • Monday/Wednesday from 4-5 PM CT
    *OR* 

  • Tuesday/Thursday from 4-5 PM CT 

There will also be a mandatory training sessions online before beginning.
